END OF GHANA’S TENURE AS CHAIR OF OACPS AMBASSADORIAL WORKING GROUP ON FISHERIES
On Monday, 13th February, 2023, Ghana’s chairmanship of the Ambassadorial Working Group (AWG) on Fisheries of the Organisation of African, Caribbean and Pacific States (OACPS) came to an end. At a meeting of the Ambassadorial Working Group, H.E. Amb. Sena Siaw-Boateng handed over the baton of leadership of the Group to the Ambassador of the United Republic of Tanzania, H.E. Mr. Jestas Abuok Nyamanga.
In her concluding remarks, Amb. Sena Siaw-Boateng highlighted significant achievements chalked by the Working Group during Ghana’s chairmanship, including the expansion of collaboration and influence at multilateral levels, Ghana’s successful hosting of the 7th Meeting of OACPS Ministers in Charge of Fisheries and Aquaculture, and the development of strategic documents to guide the conduct and activities of the OACPS Fisheries Mechanism. She expressed the gratitude of the Ghanaian delegation to the Working Group and the OACPS Secretariat for all their support and cooperation during the period. She also wishes the United Republic of Tanzania a successful tenure.
In spite of the handing over, Ghana will continue to serve as a member of the TROIKA of the Working Group, along with the new Chair, Tanzania, and Samoa, which hosted and chaired the 6th Ministerial Meeting on Fisheries and Aquaculture.
Ghana's position as Chair offered her an invaluable opportunity to enhance her profile within the OACPS by promoting her image and reputation and increasing her goodwill.
