WORKING VISIT TO NEW GHANAIAN AFRO SHOPS IN GHENT AND ST. NIKLAAS
Mission embarked on a working visit to the cities of Ghent and St. Niklaas on Thursday 1st June, 2023 to interact with newly opened Ghanaian afro shops. Mr. Mckarios Akanbong, the Deputy Head of Mission was accompanied by Ms. Sheila T. Kangberee, the Trade Attaché, Ms. Bernice Ahlijah, Trade Secretary and Ms. Eva Owusu, an intern.

PROFILES OF THE SHOPS AND SHOP OWNERS

M and M Afro shop: It is an Asian shop which largely sources its products from Ghanaian distributors in Belgium. M and M Afro shop sells an array of Ghanaian spices and food products. The shop is located at Wondelgemstraat 48, 9000 Ghent.

Foreign shop: Mr. Philip Andoh is a pioneer exporter of Ghanaian products who exports under the label of Otumfuor and Asafo. Popular among the label include Otumfour plantain fufu, Asafo exotic pounded yam and many more. The warehouse is located at Doorzeelsestraat 72E, 9940 Evergem in the city of Ghent and their website is www.foreignshop.be

Sankofa market and Florence Kitchen: It is located in St. Niklaas. Sankofa is a retail shop of Ghanaian and African products. Florence Kitchen is the first Ghanaian-owned restaurant in St. Niklaas that serves an array of Ghanaian dishes. Mr. David Acquah is the face behind the business. Address of the shop and restaurant is Klienlaan 14B and Klienlaan 11, 9100 St. Niklaas.
