On 15th May, 2026, the Ghana Embassy in Brussels as part of its role to protect the interests of Ghanaians abroad, organised the 1st edition of the Diaspora Engagement Series at the Chancery.
The topic for the Session was « Understanding the EU and Belgian Migration Laws » . In his opening remarks, the Head of Consular, Mr Gabriel Owusu-Ansah stated the importance of the session amidst a geopolitical climate where various countries in Europe were tackling migration as a major policy.
During the session, Ms. Nikish Vita, a Belgium-based migration lawyer with over a decade's experience took members of the Ghanaian community through the various legal pathways for migration into Belgium such as Short stay visas, long stay, as well as the processes through which citizens can migrate through family reunification.
The presentation was followed by a very interactive Q &A segment with members of the Ghanaian community posing questions and offering contributions on the topic with real life scenarios.
The Minister Counsellor for OACPS & Diaspora Affairs, Mr. Miftau Sulemana, on behalf of the Mission. presented some gifts to the resource person. The Head of Chancery, Mr. Mohammed Sheriff Iddrisu in his closing remarks thanked Ms. Vita for her presentation and indicated that the session was an eye opener which would definitely encourage the Mission to hold similar engagements in the future.
