TEAM FROM OACPS SECRETARIAT VISITS GHANA TO PREPARE FOR 7TH MEETING OF MINISTERS IN CHARGE OF FISHERIES AND AQUACULTURE
A two-member technical team from the Secretariat of the Organisation of African, Caribbean, and Pacific States (OACPS) was in Ghana from 10th to 12th November, 2021 to assess Ghana’s preparations towards hosting the 7th Meeting of OACPS Ministers in charge of Fisheries and Aquaculture from 5th to 8th April, 2022.

The team was led by the Assistant Secretary General in charge of the Department of Environment and Climate Action, Ms. Cristelle Pratt, with the other member being Mr. Amath Faye, Interpreter/Conference Services.

As part of activities of the visit, the team met with the Minister for Foreign Affairs and Regional Integration, Hon. Shirley Ayorkor Botchwey. At a brief ceremony after the meeting, the Host Country Agreement for the 7th Meeting of OACPS Ministers in charge of Fisheries and Aquaculture was signed between Hon. Shirley Ayorkor Botchwey, on behalf of the Government of the Republic of Ghana, and Ms. Cristelle Pratt, on behalf of the OACPS Secretariat.

The Assistant Secretary General and her team also held meetings with the Chief of Staff at the Presidency, Hon. Akosua Frema Osei-Opare; the Minister for Fisheries and Aquaculture Development, Hon. Mavis Hawa Koomson (MP), and members of the National Planning Committee. The also met external partners, such as the FAO Regional Office for Africa & FAO Representation to Ghana, and the European Union Delegation to Ghana.

The team also inspected conference and hotel facilities earmarked as venue for the upcoming meeting and the accommodation of delegates.

The 7th Meeting of OACPS Ministers in charge of Fisheries and Aquaculture is to be held under the theme: “OACPS Blue Economy Agenda 2030 – Catalysing the Sustainable Fisheries and aquaculture development for the future”. The overall objective of the meeting is to provide a forum for the engagement of the highest-level policy and decision makers on fisheries and aquaculture resources development to provide strategic policy direction and guidance, to improve and strengthen fisheries governance and contribute to the overall sustainable development of members of the OACPS.
